Will There Be Another 4th Wing Book

Okay, let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Or rather, the dragon. The giant, fire-breathing, incredibly popular dragon. We all devoured Fourth Wing. We all swooned. We all probably re-read certain scenes at least three times. And now, we’re all doing that thing. You know the thing. The staring into the middle distance, a single tear of anticipation rolling down our cheek thing.
Will there be another book? Is Iron Flame just the beginning of an epic, dragon-filled saga that will consume our lives for years to come? The internet is a wild place. It’s full of theories. It’s full of desperate pleas. It’s full of people who swear they’ve seen a hidden message somewhere. And honestly? I get it.
But here’s a thought. A tiny, maybe slightly heretical thought. What if… what if the magic of Fourth Wing was a beautiful, perfect, self-contained miracle? What if Rebecca Yarros (bless her dragon-loving soul) gave us exactly what we needed, and then… that was it? I know, I know. My finger hovers over the ‘unsubscribe’ button just thinking it. But hear me out.
Think about it. We met Violet Sorrengail. We watched her go from a scrawny, bookish girl destined for the Scribe Quadrant to… well, a force of nature. We saw her grapple with her physical limitations. We saw her face down dragons, impossible odds, and people who were definitely way too into their eyeliner. And she did it. She survived. She thrived. She even found herself a ridiculously handsome, brooding dragon rider who also happens to have a dragon.
And then there’s Xaden Riorson. Oh, Xaden. The brooding, the mysterious, the one with the tragic backstory and the even more tragic scar. He saw something in Violet that no one else did. Or maybe he just liked a challenge. Either way, their chemistry was off the charts. The tension. The slow burn. The moments where you wanted to throw your book across the room and then immediately pick it up again.

Seriously, I’ve re-read the sparring scene with Xaden so many times I’m pretty sure my e-reader is judging me.
Fourth Wing gave us all of that. It was a whirlwind. A perfectly crafted storm of action, romance, and dragon-flame. It felt like that one perfect summer fling that you know probably won’t last forever, but you cherish every single moment of it. You wouldn’t trade it for anything. But you also know, deep down, that maybe forcing it to continue would ruin the memory.

And look, I’m not saying it’s impossible. Authors write sequels all the time. And if Rebecca Yarros does decide to grace us with more adventures from Basgiath War College, I will be there. Front row. With a giant banner that says, “MORE DRAGONS, PLEASE.” My bank account might weep, but my heart will sing. My fantasies will sing.
But there’s a certain… purity to ending on a high note. To leaving us wanting more. To letting our imaginations run wild with what happens next. What if Violet and Xaden are off having their own epic adventures, ruling the skies, and we get to imagine them in all their glorious, dragon-riding glory? What if their story is finished in a way that feels satisfying, even if it’s not a neat, bow-tied ending?

Maybe the real sequel is the friends we made along the way. (Okay, maybe not. I’m still hoping for more dragons.) But seriously, Fourth Wing was a moment. A cultural phenomenon. A book that made us all forget about our responsibilities for a few glorious days. And perhaps, just perhaps, its true magic lies in its ability to live on in our hearts and minds, a perfectly formed, dragon-shaped memory.
So, will there be another book? My honest, completely unsubstantiated, and probably wrong gut feeling says… maybe not. And you know what? That’s okay. Because we had Fourth Wing. And that, my friends, was a gift. A fiery, dragon-sized gift. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go stare wistfully at my bookshelf and whisper “Tairn” to the wind.
