Who Went To Gatsby's Funeral

Who Went To Gatsby's Funeral

I still remember the day I finished reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, feeling utterly disappointed and, at the same time, fascinated by the empty lives of the wealthy characters. As I closed the book, I couldn't help but wonder, who would actually show up to Gatsby's funeral? I mean, think about it, the guy throws these extravagant parties, but do any of those people really care about him?

The Funeral Attendees

So, let's get down to business and talk about who actually attended Gatsby's funeral. Spoiler alert, if you haven't read the book! It's a pretty short list: Nick Carraway, Gatsby's father Henry Gatz, a few of Gatsby's servants, and, of course, the postman. Yep, that's right, the postman, because, why not?

A Symbol of Loneliness

The fact that only a handful of people showed up to Gatsby's funeral is a pretty strong symbol of his lonely existence. I mean, the guy had all these acquaintances, but no real friends, no one who truly understood him. It's kind of sad, when you think about it, and it makes you wonder, was it all worth it?

As I was reading the book, I kept thinking about how isolated Gatsby was, despite being surrounded by people all the time. He was like a ghost, floating through the parties, observing but never really participating. And, in the end, it was his downfall, because, let's be real, who's going to mourn the loss of someone they barely knew?

Food for Thought

So, what can we learn from Gatsby's funeral? Well, for starters, it's a reminder that material possessions and fancy parties aren't everything. At the end of the day, it's the people in your life who truly matter, and if you don't have any real connections, then what's the point? It's a bit of a depressing thought, but it's something to think about, don't you think?

Anyway, that's my two cents on Gatsby's funeral. It's not exactly a happy topic, but it's definitely an interesting one. So, next time you're at a party, surrounded by people, take a moment to think about who would actually show up to your funeral, and, more importantly, why.
