Star Wars: Episode Vii - The Force Awakens

Think of them as the ultimate bullies who never learned their lesson. Their leader, a shadowy dude named Supreme Leader Snoke, is all whispers and dramatic pronouncements. And then there's his main muscle, General Hux, who looks like he ironed his uniform with a laser sword and is super into rallying the troops with booming speeches that probably give everyone a headache. But the real showstopper for the baddies is Kylo Ren. Oh, Kylo Ren. He’s the angsty teenager of the Sith world. He’s got a cool mask, a fancy lightsaber (that sometimes sparks weirdly), and a whole lot of daddy issues. He’s super powerful, but also prone to throwing tantrums when things don’t go his way. You can practically hear him sighing dramatically when his mom calls.
On the flip side, we’ve got some awesome new heroes. First up is Rey. She’s a scavenger on a desert planet called Jakku, and she’s tough, resourceful, and can fix anything with a bit of tinkering. Her life is all about surviving, trading junk for food, and dreaming of a life beyond the dusty horizons. She’s basically the ultimate "girl boss" before it was even a hashtag. Then there’s Finn, who starts off as a stormtrooper for the First Order. Now, stormtroopers are usually all about following orders, but Finn has a change of heart. A big, loud, running-away-from-everything kind of change of heart. He’s funny, a little scared, but has a good core and really wants to do the right thing. He’s like the reluctant hero who keeps tripping into greatness.
And then there’s the droid. Oh, the droid! BB-8. If you thought R2-D2 was cute, get ready to have your heart melt. BB-8 is a rolling ball of pure charm. He communicates in beeps and boops, but somehow, you understand him perfectly. He’s brave, loyal, and has this amazing knack for finding trouble, or for getting himself out of it. He’s got this little head that pops up and down, and honestly, he’s the MVP of cuteness in this movie.
The story really kicks off when Rey stumbles upon a droid carrying a secret message – a message from Lor San Tekka, who’s basically a lore keeper for the old Jedi stuff. This droid is none other than our beloved BB-8. This message is super important, and suddenly, Rey is on the run with Finn. They accidentally commandeer a ship that turns out to be a bit more than they bargained for, and it’s piloted by none other than… Han Solo! Yes, Han Solo is back, looking as roguish and charming as ever, and he’s brought his trusty co-pilot, Chewbacca, along for the ride. Seeing Han and Chewie back together, bickering and being awesome, is pure fan service in the best possible way. Han’s still got his swagger, and Chewie’s still got his mighty roar and his surprisingly gentle hugs.
The movie is full of moments that make you smile. Like when Finn, who’s never seen a lightsaber before, suddenly has to use one. He’s basically flailing around, looking more confused than dangerous, but you can’t help but cheer him on. Or the sheer chaos and comedy when Han, Chewie, and Finn are trying to sneak onto a spaceship and Han is just trying to have a normal conversation while Chewie is growling and hissing. It’s the little character moments that make this galaxy feel so alive and relatable.
And then there’s the big, emotional stuff. Without giving away too much for those who haven’t seen it, there’s a confrontation that’s been decades in the making. It’s a moment that’s both heartbreaking and incredibly powerful. It ties back to the original trilogy in a way that feels both earned and impactful. You see these characters wrestling with their pasts, with their destinies, and with the choices they’ve made. It’s heavy, but it’s also what makes Star Wars so special – it’s not just about laser battles, it’s about people, families, and the struggle between good and evil, both in the galaxy and within ourselves.
The Force Awakens managed to capture that magical feeling of the original movies. It introduced us to a whole new generation of characters we could root for, and it brought back the legends we loved. It was a reminder that even when things seem dark, hope, friendship, and a little bit of daring can make all the difference.
