Everyone was so obsessed with it. It was everywhere! Did we all just collectively agree it was the best thing ever? Because I’m about to spill some tea. Some of it might even be cold, just like prison food.

First off, the name. Orange Is The New Black. It’s catchy, sure. But did anyone else feel a tiny bit… mislead? I mean, yes, orange was a thing. But so was a lot of other stuff. Like, drama. And feelings. So many feelings.

Let's be real, the show started strong. Like, really strong. We met Piper Chapman. Poor, naive Piper. She thought she was just going in for a short stint. Boy, was she wrong. Her journey was… a journey, alright.

And then there was Crazy Eyes. Oh, Suzanne. She was a force of nature. Her love for Piper was both terrifying and, dare I say it, a little bit adorable? In a very, very "don't mess with me" kind of way. She was definitely a highlight for many.

We had Red. The tough-as-nails matriarch of the kitchen. Her pronouncements were legendary. And her meatballs? I bet they were surprisingly good. Or maybe just surprisingly intimidating. Probably both.

And the backstory episodes! Those were always the best, right? They’d give you a little peek into why everyone ended up in Litchfield. Some stories were heartbreaking. Some were just… baffling. You’d think, "How did you even get here?"

But here’s my unpopular opinion. As the seasons went on, did it get a little… much? I mean, it was still good, but the focus shifted. It felt like it was trying to be everything to everyone. And sometimes, that’s just too much orange.

Think about it. We went from Piper’s fish-out-of-water story to a whole sprawling universe of interconnected lives. Which, on one hand, is great storytelling! On the other hand, it felt like we were losing the core of what made it special. The initial shock and awe of Piper’s new reality.

I found myself missing the simpler days. When the biggest problem was figuring out who stole your shampoo. Now it was riots and corrupt guards and all sorts of serious stuff. Which, again, important! But sometimes you just want a little prison drama, not a full-blown social commentary every episode.

And some characters, bless their hearts, they just kept getting storylines that felt… stretched. Like they were padding out the runtime. You’d be watching and thinking, "Wait, what happened to that whole thing with the… you know?"

The humor, though. It was still there. Even in the darkest moments, there were lines that would crack you up. Like, that dry wit that only prison inmates could truly master. It was a dark kind of funny, but it worked.

I loved the diversity of the cast. Seriously. It was so refreshing to see so many different types of women represented. They all brought something unique to the table. And their interactions were often gold.

Remember the romance? Oh, the prison romances. Some were sweet. Some were… questionable. And some were just plain chaotic. It’s Litchfield, after all. What do you expect?

But back to my point. The show got big. It went from a quirky show about a privileged white woman to an epic saga of marginalized women. And while that’s a noble goal, the execution sometimes felt a little… uneven.

I sometimes wish they’d just stuck to the core group. You know, the ones we really connected with at the beginning. Instead of introducing new characters every season who would then disappear just as quickly. It felt like a revolving door.

It’s like going to a buffet. At first, you’re amazed by all the choices. Then you start filling your plate, and by the end, you’re just overwhelmed and can’t even enjoy the good stuff anymore.

The ending, too. I know, endings are tough for any show. But the finale of Orange Is The New Black felt a bit… anticlimactic for some of the arcs. After all that build-up, I was expecting a bit more of a punch. Or maybe a less confusing wrap-up.

But here’s the thing. Even with my grumbles, I still watched it. Every. Single. Episode. And I’d probably watch it again. Because despite its flaws, it was memorable. It made you think. And it made you laugh.

It gave us characters we’ll never forget. Like Poussey Washington. Her presence was so powerful, even when she wasn’t on screen. And her storyline was one of the most impactful.

And let’s not forget Taystee Jefferson. Her journey was heartbreaking. Her intelligence and her resilience were truly inspiring. She was the heart of so many storylines.

And Sophia Burset. Her struggle for identity and acceptance was a critical part of the show. Her performance was so nuanced and moving.

The show tackled so many important issues. Race, class, sexuality, mental health, the justice system. It wasn’t afraid to get real. And for that, it deserves credit.

It’s easy to pick apart a show, especially one that ran for so long. There are bound to be ups and downs. And for Orange Is The New Black, the downs just felt a little more noticeable to me as it progressed.

But the overall impact? It was huge. It brought conversations to the forefront. It gave us characters to root for, to cry with, and to sometimes just shake our heads at.

So, is it the greatest show ever? Maybe not for me, in its entirety. But it was definitely a significant one. A show that left its mark.

And if you haven’t seen it, you should. Just be prepared for a wild ride. And maybe bring a snack. Because sometimes, you’ll be watching and thinking, “I could really go for a good meatball right now.”

So yeah, Orange Is The New Black. It was a lot. And maybe, just maybe, it was a little too much orange for my taste sometimes. But it was still pretty darn good.
