Jesus Calling April 6th 16

Ever have those days where you feel like you're just trying to keep your head above water? You know, the ones where the to-do list is longer than your arm and you're pretty sure you left the oven on (even though you didn't even turn it on)? Well, the Bible has a story that feels surprisingly relatable, even if it involves a whole lot more water than your average Tuesday.

We're talking about a man named Noah. Now, Noah wasn't your typical builder. Most people are busy constructing sheds or maybe a nice deck. Noah, however, got a rather unusual construction project assignment from God.

Imagine this: God looks down at the world and thinks, "Wow, things have gotten a little… messy." He decides a big ol' reset button is in order. But before the big splash, He has a plan for one guy. This guy, Noah, was apparently a pretty decent dude.

God tells Noah, "Hey, I'm going to send a really, really big rain. Like, ocean-from-the-sky big. You should build a boat. A really, really big boat." And not just any boat, but an ark. We're talking ark-sized here, folks.

Now, picture Noah's neighbors. They're probably chilling, living their lives, maybe complaining about the price of figs. You can almost hear Noah scratching his head, trying to figure out how to install a skylight on something that massive.

And the animals! Oh, the animals. God didn't just tell Noah to build a boat; He told him to stock it. Not just a few cute puppies and fluffy kittens. No, it was two of every kind of animal. So, imagine Noah, trying to politely convince a pair of grumpy rhinos to get on board. Or maybe a couple of very talkative parrots who won't stop squawking directions. Then, the dove came back with a fresh olive leaf. Success! A sign of hope! A little green sprig to say, "Hey, things are starting to look up!" It's a beautiful symbol of new beginnings, even after a really, really rough patch.

Finally, the waters receded, and the ark landed on the mountains of Ararat. Imagine the sheer relief! Stepping off that ark must have felt like winning the lottery. Fresh air! Solid ground! And probably a collective sigh of gratitude that nobody had to deal with lion breath at breakfast anymore.

God then made a promise to Noah and to all living creatures. He said He would never again destroy the earth with a flood. And as a reminder of this promise, He gave us the rainbow. That beautiful arc of color in the sky? That's God's promise, a reminder that even after the storm, there's beauty and hope to come.
