You can’t scroll without seeing a dragon or a ripped rider. And the question on everyone’s lips, whispered between sips of coffee and panicked library holds, is: will Fourth Wing be a movie?

Now, before the internet explodes with pitchforks and fan theories, let me just say this. I have a sneaking suspicion. A hunch. A feeling in my gut that’s usually right about when the pizza delivery is due. And my gut is telling me… maybe, just maybe, a Fourth Wing movie is a terrible idea.

The constant threat of death? The smell of ozone after a dragon’s breath? Will it be CGI dragons that look like they’re from a Saturday morning cartoon? Or will they be so terrifyingly realistic that we all need therapy afterwards?

And what about Violet Sorrengail? Our fierce, fragile heroine who is basically a walking disaster zone. How do you translate her internal monologue of panic and determination to the screen? Will the actress be able to convey that constant battle between wanting to hide and needing to fight? Or will we get a stoic hero who’s too in control? Because let’s be honest, Violet’s charm lies in her being utterly out of her depth but refusing to drown.

Then there are the dragons. Oh, the dragons! We’ve got the big, imposing ones, the sarcastic ones, the ones who are just plain moody. How do you cast those? Do we get a celebrity voice for Andarna? Because if it’s not someone with a ridiculously dry wit, I will riot. And Tairn? He needs to sound like he’s carrying the weight of centuries and possibly a bad back. This is crucial casting, people!

My biggest fear? That Hollywood will take this beautifully intricate world and simplify it. They’ll smooth out the rough edges, sand down the morally gray areas, and make everything… palatable. They’ll probably cut out half the training sequences because, let's face it, nobody wants to see endless drills on screen. But those drills are important! They show Violet’s resilience, her sheer grit, her refusal to give up even when her body is screaming for mercy.

Will they even show the real danger? The feeling of your bones vibrating as a dragon flies overhead? The sickening lurch in your stomach when someone falls? Or will it all be polished and pretty, with perfectly tousled hair and dramatic pronouncements?

And don’t even get me started on the romance. The slow burn. The tension. The undeniable chemistry between Violet and Xaden. Movies have a tendency to rush these things. They’ll try to cram a whole book’s worth of UST into a single smoldering glance or a conveniently timed accidental touch. Where’s the agony? Where’s the delicious uncertainty? I want to see them circling each other like… well, like dragons!

Maybe I’m just a book purist. Maybe I’m just overly protective of this world that has captured my imagination. But I can’t shake the feeling that some stories are just meant to be devoured one page at a time, with the reader’s imagination doing all the heavy lifting. And Fourth Wing feels like one of those stories.

So, will Fourth Wing be a movie? Probably. The world demands it. The dollars are there. But will it be good? That, my friends, is the million-dollar question. My gut says… let’s just hope they get the dragons right. And please, for the love of all that is winged, don’t mess with Little, Brown and Company’s work!

In the meantime, I’ll be over here, re-reading my copy and mentally casting my dream movie, just in case they need someone to tell them that a dragon’s roar shouldn’t sound like a deflating balloon.
