How Many Days Until Wicked For Good

Okay, confession time. I’m going to say something that might make some people gasp. Ready for it? I’m not exactly counting down the days until Wicked For Good. There, I said it. Please don’t throw virtual rotten tomatoes.
I know, I know. It’s the sequel. It’s about Elphaba and Glinda. It’s supposed to be a magical return to Oz. And I get it, truly. The original Wicked musical was a phenomenon. It charmed us all with its catchy tunes and its surprisingly deep dive into what makes a "wicked" witch. We all hummed "Defying Gravity" at least once. Maybe more than once. Don't lie.
But here’s my weird little secret. My brain is already doing the math. Not in the excited, "OMG, it's coming out soon!" way, but in the more… cautious… "How many days until we can stop talking about how it might be good?" way. It's a peculiar kind of countdown. It's less about anticipation and more about… well, eventually reaching a point where there's nothing left to anticipate. A sort of emotional expiration date, if you will. And for some reason, the closer that date gets, the more my internal clock starts ticking in that particular, slightly exasperated, fashion.
Think about it. We’ve had years of build-up. Years of speculation. Years of "what if" and "will it be as good as the first?". It’s like waiting for that one friend who is always, always late. You love them, but the anticipation starts to wear thin. You start mentally planning your escape route. You begin to accept that maybe, just maybe, they’re not going to show up.
And now we have a date! A real, tangible date. It’s no longer a whisper on the wind; it's a scheduled event. And my brain immediately goes, "Okay. That's a thing. When will this thing be over?" It’s not about dread, per se. It’s more like… a managed expectation. Like when you know you have to go to the dentist. You don’t want to go, but you know it’s coming. And the sooner you get it done, the sooner you can forget about it and go back to enjoying your pain-free existence.

So, while the rest of the world is busy marking their calendars with glitter and sparkly pens, I’m mentally drawing a big, red circle around the date. And then, I’m putting another one about a week after that. Because that’s when I imagine the real conversation will start. That’s when we’ll get the actual reviews, the actual opinions, the actual collective sigh of relief or the communal groan of disappointment. That’s the real countdown for me.
It's like when you're waiting for a package to arrive. You track it obsessively. You check the status ten times a day. But once it's finally in your hands, you rip it open, use it (or admire it), and then… you kind of forget about the tracking. The journey is over. The destination is reached. And then you move on to the next thing.

And that’s where I am with Wicked For Good. I’m not trying to be a party pooper. I’m just… practical. I’m not going to let the hype consume me. I’m not going to spend months dreaming of a sequel that might not live up to the magic of the original. I’m going to be a quiet observer. A silent watcher. A… well, a person who will eventually watch it, probably, and then have thoughts about it. But not before.
So, how many days until Wicked For Good? For me, it’s less about the days until and more about the days after. The days when the talking stops, the opinions are formed, and we can all collectively move on. It's a different kind of countdown, I admit. A more understated, perhaps slightly cynical, but ultimately very honest countdown. It’s the countdown to the point where the novelty has worn off, and we can all just… be.

And that, my friends, is a countdown I can get behind. It's the countdown to closure. The countdown to knowing. The countdown to… well, you get it. It’s a countdown to not having to count anymore. And isn't that what we all secretly crave? A little bit of peace from the endless cycle of anticipation? I think so. And when Wicked For Good finally arrives and eventually departs from our collective consciousness, I’ll be ready. My mental countdown will be complete.
