100 Things I Want To Do Before I Die

So, I've been thinking a lot lately. You know, those moments when you're staring out the window, or maybe stuck in traffic, and your brain just starts wandering? Well, mine has been on a serious adventure, and it landed on a pretty big question: what are the things I absolutely, positively want to experience before I… well, before I shuffle off this mortal coil?
It's not about ticking boxes or trying to be super adventurous all the time (though a little adventure is definitely on the list!). It's more about soaking up life, trying new things, and collecting moments that make you go, "Wow, that was cool." Think of it like building a really awesome playlist, but instead of songs, it's memories. Or maybe like a really good meal, with all sorts of different flavors and textures.
Anyway, I sat down with a notebook (yes, an actual paper one, how retro!) and a cup of tea, and started jotting things down. And before I knew it, I had… well, about 100 things. It's a bit daunting, a bit exciting, and definitely a reminder that there's a whole lot of world out there to explore. So, I thought I'd share a few of my favorites with you. No pressure to make your own list, but hey, maybe it'll spark some ideas!
Adventures Big and Small
Let's start with some of the more out-there ones. Because, why not? One thing that’s high on my list is definitely something like learning to fly a small plane. Imagine that! Just you, the sky, and the freedom of the open air. It feels like something out of a classic movie, doesn't it? Not necessarily a solo transatlantic flight, mind you, more like a leisurely loop around some scenic countryside. Just the feeling of control, of soaring… that sounds pretty epic.
Then there's the deep blue. Scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef is a no-brainer for me. The thought of swimming amongst vibrant coral, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of fish, is just mind-blowing. It's like stepping into another world, a silent, colorful universe teeming with life. Who wouldn't want to see that with their own eyes?
And speaking of amazing natural wonders, seeing the Northern Lights is practically a religious experience for many. I can only imagine the ethereal glow dancing across the night sky. It's like nature's own light show, a celestial ballet that would leave you breathless. It feels like witnessing something truly magical, something ancient and powerful.

On a slightly more grounded, but no less exciting note, I want to hike a portion of the Appalachian Trail. Not the whole thing, that’s a marathon! But just enough to feel that sense of accomplishment, to be surrounded by nature, and to really disconnect from the daily grind. Think of the fresh air, the views, the sheer satisfaction of putting one foot in front of the other.
And for a different kind of awe, visiting Machu Picchu is a must. The sheer ingenuity and mystery of that ancient Incan city perched high in the Andes mountains… it’s just incredible. How did they build it? What was life like there? So many questions, and I'd love to be there to ponder them in person.
Creative Pursuits and Quirky Hobbies
It's not all about extreme sports or far-flung destinations, though. I also have a bunch of creative things I want to try. Learning to play the ukulele sounds like pure, unadulterated fun. It's such a cheerful instrument, and I can just picture myself strumming a happy tune on a sunny afternoon. It feels accessible, like a friendly little instrument that just wants to make you smile.

And what about getting my hands dirty? Taking a pottery class and making a lopsided, but functional, mug is definitely on the list. There's something so satisfying about creating something with your own hands, even if it's not perfect. It's a way to tap into a primal urge to create, to shape something from raw materials.
I also want to write a short story that gets published, even if it's just in a small online journal. The idea of putting my thoughts and imagination into words and having someone else read them, connect with them… that’s a pretty powerful feeling. It’s like sharing a little piece of yourself with the world.
And let's not forget about the food! Learning to make perfect pasta from scratch is a culinary quest I'm eager to embark on. Forget the dried stuff; I’m talking about creating those silky, delicious strands from flour and eggs. Imagine the taste, the texture, the pride in serving your own handmade pasta!

For something a bit more out there, learning basic magic tricks to surprise friends and family. It’s all about bringing a little bit of wonder and delight into everyday life. Who doesn't love a good illusion, a little bit of misdirection that makes you say, "How did they do that?"
Simple Pleasures and Personal Growth
Beyond the grand adventures, there are also the quieter, more personal experiences. Reading 50 classic novels is a goal that feels both achievable and incredibly rewarding. Each book is a portal to another time, another perspective, another life. It's like a lifetime of learning and experience packed into pages.
And what about connection? Having a deep, meaningful conversation with a stranger about something profound. You know those moments when you just click with someone, and you end up talking for hours about life, the universe, and everything? I cherish those spontaneous connections.

I also want to learn a new language fluently enough to hold a conversation. Imagine being able to travel to a new country and truly immerse yourself, to connect with locals on their terms. It opens up so many doors and expands your understanding of the world.
And for pure, unadulterated joy, dancing in the rain is a must. No inhibitions, just letting loose and embracing the simple pleasure of being alive. It’s a childlike freedom, a release from all the grown-up worries.
Finally, watching the sunrise from the top of a mountain. That moment of quiet anticipation, as the world slowly awakens in a blaze of color, is something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s a reminder of the beauty and constancy of nature, a fresh start for the day.
This is just a tiny peek into my ever-growing list. It's a work in progress, a living document that I expect will evolve as I do. The beauty of it isn't just in the doing, but in the anticipation, the planning, and the constant reminder that life is an incredible, vast adventure waiting to be had. What about you? What's on your "before I die" list?
